Leitz Factory History: Historical Photo Walk Through Wetzlar with Exclusive Tunnel Tour

  • Where photography meets history – this unique photo walk offers participants the chance to explore the fascinating past of Leica while capturing it through their cameras. On Saturday, May 31st, the Leica Store Wetzlar invites photography and history enthusiasts alike to join a distinctive tour that promises both visual and historical highlights. The meeting point is at 10:00 a.m. at the main entrance of the town hall (Ernst-Leitz-Straße, opposite Leica Microsystems).


    Led by Store Manager Sebastian Scholz, the photo walk takes attendees to key locations in Leica’s history – from the town hall to Schillerplatz, Eisenmarkt, and Hauser Tor. Along the way, participants will gain exciting insights into the Leitz family and the development of the legendary Leica cameras. Each stop also offers a wealth of photographic opportunities: historic architecture, vibrant street scenes, and intriguing details just waiting to be captured through the lens. The event also encourages dialogue – creating space for inspiration, new perspectives, and valuable photography tips.


    A special highlight is the guided tunnel tour, which leads deep beneath the city into Wetzlar’s historic underground. Here, participants will find not only a unique photo backdrop but also an engaging presentation on the history of this hidden site.


    The historical photo walk on May 31st costs €49 per person. Meeting point is at 10:00 a.m. at the main entrance of the town hall (Ernst-Leitz-Straße, opposite Leica Microsystems).
