Available Light Practical Seminar
28.08.2026
A warm summer evening in Wetzlar: the Old Town is slowly bathed in golden light, building facades begin to glow, and the alleyways fill with soft shadows—and it is precisely during this transition that the special charm of available-light photography unfolds. On August 28, 2026, this atmospheric window of opportunity will open up for you to enjoy an immersive photographic experience in Wetzlar’s Old Town.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. at Leica Welt with a personal welcome and a concise introduction by Oliver Vogler to the basics of available-light photography. Afterward, a shuttle will take you to Wetzlar’s Old Town, where you’ll arrive just in time for the blue hour—precisely when the light softens and the first artificial light sources come into play.
In a deliberately small and exclusive group of six participants, Oliver Vogler will guide you through the entire evening. From sunset through twilight and into the night, you’ll experience how the lighting conditions continuously change—and how to make strategic use of them in your photography. You’ll be taking photos until late in the evening—around 11:00 p.m. or midnight—and then return together by shuttle to Leitz Park.
The focus here is not on the technical aspects, but on conscious observation: How does light change as the evening progresses? How can existing light sources be used to create atmosphere, depth, and contrast in the image? You’ll receive direct feedback and personalized guidance as you continue to develop your own photographic style.
Depending on availability, suitable Leica equipment can be rented for the workshop. In particular, fast lenses such as the Noctilux open up additional creative possibilities and allow you to immediately experience the unique visual impact of available-light photography.
This format is not a traditional lecture, but rather an intensive, guided hands-on session in a real-world setting. The participation fee is €99. Due to the very limited number of participants, early registration is recommended.
