As Wetzlar comes alive with the warm colours of autumn, its historic old town and the banks of the River Lahn become a captivating setting for photography. On Saturday, 31 October 2026, the “Autumn Colours” Photo Walk combines photographic exploration with fascinating insights into the city’s history and a unique opportunity to see Wetzlar from a different perspective.
The walk begins at 11:00 a.m., following the banks of the River Lahn and crossing the historic Old Lahn Bridge before winding through picturesque streets and charming squares towards the former Leitz factory site. Along the way, participants will encounter a wealth of photographic opportunities, from reflections on the river and vibrant autumn foliage to intricate half-timbered architecture and lively street scenes.
A particular highlight is the guided ascent to Kalsmunt. Accompanied by a guide from the Wetzlar Tourist Information Office, participants will set off at approximately 12:00 noon, passing the historic Haus Friedwart, once the residence of the Leitz family, before making their way up to Kalsmunt Tower. Normally closed to the public, this exceptional vantage point offers breathtaking panoramic views across Wetzlar and the Lahn Valley – a rare opportunity to capture striking wide-angle panoramas and telephoto compositions.
Afterwards, participants are free to explore further photographic opportunities along a route leading through the Avignon Gardens, Rosengärtchen and Cathedral Square before returning to the old town. This final part of the walk offers time to pursue individual creative ideas, experiment with different perspectives and exchange inspiration with fellow photography enthusiasts. The photo walk concludes at approximately 2:00 p.m., with the option of rounding off the experience together at a local café.
The “Autumn Colours” Photo Walk takes place on Saturday, 31 October 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m. The meeting point is the Lahninsel car park in Wetzlar. The participation fee is €25 per person, including the guided visit to Kalsmunt Tower. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the ascent. Participants are kindly asked to bring their own camera.
