Exhibition
Architecture Between Reality and Vision
Architectural Designs by RPTU Students at the Leica Camera AG Foyer
11.11.2026 – 24.11.2026
Architecture begins with an idea—and the courage to rethink the status quo. What spaces will we need in the future? How can living, working, and community be architecturally integrated? And what design possibilities does a location like the Leica campus offer?
At the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), prospective architects are addressing these fundamental questions. The Department of Architecture combines creative design with structural thinking, actively engaging with spatial and societal challenges. Within the Building Construction II and Design division, students develop their own architectural concepts, exploring the interplay between design, construction, and spatial creation.
As part of their bachelor’s and master’s theses, the students focused on the Leitz-Park in Wetzlar. The resulting designs are now being presented in the foyer of Leica Camera AG. As host, Leica Welt provides the platform to bring these young talents' creative ideas and architectural visions to light beyond the academic context.
The bachelor’s theses center on the design of a fictional company housing settlement for Leica. Students developed individual architectural concepts exploring the possibilities of living and coexisting within the environment of a corporate location.
Under the title "The Massive House" (Das massive Haus), master's students tackled another design challenge: conceptualizing a building at the southwestern tip of the Leitz-Park. This resulted in diverse architectural interpretations that visually advance the site and open up new spatial perspectives.
All featured works are purely conceptual studies and do not represent planned construction projects. It is precisely this creative freedom that makes the exhibition so compelling: it allows room for experimentation, unconventional approaches, and imaginative visions beyond formal building mandates.
The exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the minds of a new generation of architects. Diverse design approaches, creative spatial concepts, and individual visions demonstrate the broad spectrum of architectural exploration.
A special synergy is created by the venue itself: at the very place where the Leitz-Park exists as a tangible architectural space, the students' fictional designs come to life. Existing architecture and visionary ideas directly intersect, inviting visitors to view familiar structures from fresh perspectives.
